Cold-like signs and symptoms such as runny nose, itchy eyes, congestion, sneezing, and sinus pressure are caused by hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis. But unlike a cough, a virus doesn’t cause hay fever. Hay fever is caused by the allergic reaction of cats, dogs and other animals with fur or feathers to outdoor or indoor allergens, such as pollen, dust mites, or tiny flecks of skin and saliva (pet dander).

Put 1 drop each of chamomile roman and lemon essential oils onto a tissue and inhale. Also add the following combination to baths, diluted first in a little carrier oil:

Lavender | 1 drop |
The neck, chest, and back can be massaged with the following oil:
Basic blend – massage
Chamomile roman | 2 drops |
Geranium | 1 drop |
Lemon | 1 drop |
Blend together and then dilute by adding 3–5 drops to each teaspoon (5 mL) of carrier oil.
Because hay fever affects people in different ways, it can take trial and error to find an effective treatment. Experiment with the essential oils.
